Xinjiang: Scenery along the roads in the North, Sep 2025

This post will be a collection of captures taken along the roads in Northern Xinjiang.  The sceneries along the roads are sometimes even more beautiful than the scenic areas themselves.  Other than the main highways, fortunately, there are many county highways where you can briefly stop on the side for a few shots.  The recently opened (June 2025) Ahe Highway 阿禾公路 is popular with photographers especially during the autumn months.  Ahe Highway connects Altay City and Hemu Village and is known as “the most beautiful highway in northern Xinjiang” with vast grasslands, dense forests, and towering snow-capped mountains.  The highway shortened the journey from Altay City to Hemu Scenic Area from 6 hours to 3 hours.  Also known as the “Ice and Snow Landscape Avenue”, it passes through 7 major ecological landscapes offering countless picturesque scenery along the way.  I was told that the day after we were there, it started snowing very heavily causing accidents and road closures.
