Guangwu Mountain: Shibayuetan, Oct 2025

From Guangwu Town we headed towards the last scenic area, Shibayuetan Scenic Area 十八月潭景区 about 2 hours away.  The highlight of my Guangwu photo tour was the drive along Chenjia Mountain road 陳家山 from Micang Mountain to Shibayuetan.  The weather was overcast and a bit rainy but the silver lining was that there was quite a bit of mist and fog adding to the beauty of the colorful fall scenery.  You have to pay the entrance fee for Shibayuetan before entering Chenjia Mountain road.  Most of the traffic was going towards Shibayuetan and many cars, including ours, stopped countless times for photos along the way.

After three hours or so, we arrived in Shibayuetan 十八月潭景区 or Eighteen Moon Ponds.  Here the stream connects 18 moon-shaped ponds over 3.5km admist coloful forest.  The leaves here are one of the last to turn red.  We took the shuttle bus to the top of the mountain and descended the narrow and very crowded footpath, mostly made of stairs, passing many waterfalls surrounded by crimson leaves in all their autumn glory.   There was way too many people and I ended up rushing down the mountain, making it quite an unpleasant experience.

That’s a wrap for my short photo tour to Guangwu Mountain in Sichuan Province.  Most people also go to Jiuzhaigou on the same trip which is apparently even more crowded.  I will leave Jiuzhaigou for another time.
