Jinchuan Pear Blossoms, Mar 2026

From Danba County 丹巴, I continued along the Dadu River 大渡河 towards Jinchuan County 金川 in hopes of finding some of the last remaining pear blossoms.  There are several villages in Jinchuan known for their concentration of pear trees such as Sha’erxiang 沙耳乡, Ge’erxiang 咯尔乡, and Qingningxiang 庆宁乡.  The most well known place to enjoy the pear blossoms in Jinchuan is the Shenxianbao Shida’an Viewing Platform 神仙包石达安观景台 of Sha’erxiang 沙耳乡looking out to a series of small hills rising from the river covered with pear trees.  Shenxianbao translates to “Fairy Bun” as legend has it that the hill was piled up by deities.  One legend has it that a young man, Shida’an, married the daughter of the mountain god and went into seclusion here, and hence the name Shida’an Shenxianbao (Fairy Fort).  Another legend has it that Genghis Khan died during his eastern expedition and his soldiers piled up earth to form his tomb here.  The viewing platform, with panoramic views of the river valley and sea of white pear blossoms, is a popular place to photograph both during sunrise and sunset.  It is the same spot where the Jinchuan promotional video was taken.  Unfortunately, there were no more pear blossoms on Shenxianbao hill.  The watchtower area on the mountain to the right still had some pear blossoms and was more beautiful.

Fuxing Village Viewing Platform 复兴村观景台 of Ge’erxiang 咯尔乡 is suitable for photographing large areas of terraced pear fields.  Navigate to Fuxing Fourth Society 复兴四社 and take the road behind it up the hill for around 700 meters.  It is best visited in the afternoon for beautiful views of the western part of the Pear Blossom Valley 梨花溝.  There are many short pear trees on both sides of the windy roads in Fuxing Village.  Some ancient pear trees are so large that it takes 3 persons to encircle.

According to the driver, the road from Ge’erxiang 咯尔乡to Qingningxiang 庆宁乡 is one of the most beautiful pear blossom avenues in the area and must not be missed.  Unfortunately, all the flowers were already gone.  Songping Village Viewing Platform 松坪村观景台 of Qingningxiang 庆宁乡 is lauded as one of the “100 Most Beautiful Photography Locations in Sichuan” by China National Geographic.  You get a panoramic view of the pear blossoms and Tibetan villages dotted around the river valley in a checkerboard pattern.  Navigate to Songping Village Committee and then take the steep narrow road for 6km to reach the viewpoint.

I was originally going to stay overnight in Jinchuan County, but since the pear blossoms are mostly gone, I decided to head back towards Chengdu and stay in Dujiangyan area 都江堰.  Stay tuned!
