Guangwu Mountain: Micang Part I, Oct 2025

Bright and early we drove about 15 mins from Guangwu Town to Micang 米倉, also known as Daba Scenic Area 大坝景区, which is the best place to enjoy the red leaves of Guangwu Mountain. The highlights here are the Natural Gallery 天然画廊, Xianglu Mountain 香炉山, Black Bear Valley 黑熊沟, and Daxiaolanggou 大小兰沟 which we will do over the two days. After purchasing the tickets, we boarded a shuttle bus that took us to transfer center of the core scenic area after about 40 mins. Since the weather was fine, we skipped the Natural Gallery for later and rushed directly to the Xianglu Mountain 香炉山 cableway which is known to have 2-3 hour long lines as the day progressed. Oftentimes, it will be temporarily closed due to weather, so best is to ask in advance about the opening situation. If the weather permits, this is a prime location for sunset and sea of clouds photography. Most bloggers advise going up to the mountain as early as possible and I concur. Xianglu Peak 香炉峰 offers great views of the fiery red leaves under the sea of clouds along the Golden Corridor 金色长廊.

Upon descending Xianglu Mountain, we grabbed a quick lunch of egg fried rice and continued to Heixiong Gully or Black Bear Gully 黑熊沟. Black Bear Gully 黑熊沟 is one of the most popular spots in Micang Mountain 米仓山 and hence super crowded. It is said to be the essence of Micang’s red leaves. The narrow path along the water was filled with people which made it difficult to peacefully appreciate the beautiful scenery. Be ready to be constantly pushed and forget about setting your bag down to change lenses.
